Go to Text/True type to polyline to convert. Use a large font size and scale it down once you have cleaned up the polylines. I find the polylines produced are a bit crude, too many vertices and I usually smooth them out and rationalise the vertices…

No Chris, you can make your own...of anything. Images of shoes or clothes can be made look like 3D by applying a mask to the texture. They are the best way to include irregular organic objects (plants, people) to your renderings.

You want to model clothes & shoes? That'll be fun. My recommendation? Use image props. Cheers   Phil

Sorry Chris, I have been specialising in retail design for many years now and I have had to invent many wheels. I never found any shop fitout symbols anywhere so I had to make my own. Cheers Phil

Are you trying to do something like this? The length of each wall segment is a fibonacci number. The top and bottom of the walls are mirrored. The angles are all 45. The top gets taller, but that's just linear. (Probably should have made the…

It looks like you can solve it by drawing the two outlines (top an bottom) and creating a nurbs surface between them. Then create a thickness to the surface. I don't know how to achieve that, but it looks as a possible approach. hope it helps…

Red? For a Western wedding? That's unusual. Perfect for Chinese though - standard wedding colour, very lucky. But colour is easy to deal with, it is style that takes some effort. I haven'thad a chance to start yet, but am hoping to download a trial version of VW at home so that I can start playing with constructing shapes. I have ideas, but am unlikely to get much time at work by the looks of it. I coudl try booking it off I suppose, for purposes of training. I will send something as soon as I can.

Ok, I will start playing on Monday...Any specific style you are looking for, or anything that could be a western wedding or bridesmaid's gown or shoes will do?

Hey Chris, I know you don't know me from a bar of soap, but I was intrigued with reinventing the wheel there. I have to learn how to use this 3D thing in Vectorworks. I have started working with Jonathan Pickup's book, but it often misses commands (early version etc) and 'taint that much fun working through basic exercises.

So I thought, if you could send me some specs, I could try my hand at modelling clothes and shoes for you, and if I get it wrong you lose nothing, if I get it right it's all yours for a mere $1million... no, sorry, kidding, for nothing. I would get some direction to my practice and maybe you'd get a few extra models for nada. How's that sound?

A potted resume - done art all my life, dropped out of Mech Eng after completing 2 years (long story and not that interesting) but got a lot of practice at seeing 2D in 3 and vice versa etc. Have done computer graphics for years using a plethora of packages, including some 3D stuff. Have been using VW for 3 yrs or so now, and am required to learn 3d by my boss in order to produce 3D presentation drawings for the LA co he runs. Am on facebook - some of my 2D art is on display there.

Interested? Drop me a line and I will get started on Monday (I don't have VW @ home, only @ work on the Mac, and I can do at least some on work time as training).

For better decking, take a look in the Textures_Exterior Finishes file. There are some weathered decking finishes there which are a lot less harsh!

The issue with textures is always a very personal one as it is for colours in the plan view. Have you looked in the Textures_Nature file via your Resource Browser? There are some other options in there for grass. Or you could always create your own texture for grass using an image or just a colour.
Do you have photoshop or other image editing software? If so, you could create an image there and use it as the basis for a new texture.
