Steve,
Our firm (www.getrojo.com) has been working with VectorWorks Architect/Renderworks for some time. We have been using it since it was know as MiniCad 2.0 in 1992 or so. Anyway, we are considered "power users" of the software and are Beta testers as well. We try to use every aspect of the software. We use it from schematic design of bubble diagrams, assign square footages and define relationships. From there, the software helps us take the spaces 3-D. Like some others, we have been BIM since before it was BIM. We are easily in Level 3 and in some areas of Level 4 as defined by the AIA Doc E-202. While VW's doesn't blow a lot of smoke, they can out perform all of the other softwares. Revit has the power of marketing from AutoDesk and ArchiCad can do some neat things, VWA will beat them from top to bottom.

While we are big VW's supporters, we keep an eye on whats available. Not so much to switch, but to let the designers at VW's know if things that would be useful to our needs. They have been very responsive. We made 2 decisions a long time ago that have turned out very well. We choose Macs in 1984 and VW's around 1990! We have been very fortunate that not only both survived, but they are now leaders in their fields.

Don't pick your software based on the most flashy product today. Remember that the most flashy is usually the one that released the most recent upgrade. Choose your product based on the top to bottom services you will require and the company that backs it up.

From our point of view, VectorWorks would be a very intelligent decision.

See our web site, there are some models on it. All of the work, however, comes from VW Architect.

Good Luck!
