Try the advanced properties button on the info pallet, under attribues you can select a number of setting, I quite often use "use attributes of origional objects"

thanks, but no. then any element that was cut by the section plane would assume the fill. but i did figure out something for walls at least. when creating a wall style there must be components. you cant just add a fill to a simple wall. then select…

Section viewports generate their own 'Section Style' class. Go to classes and then change the fill style. This should be independent of any fill style you have applied to the plan (as another viewport)..is this answering the question?

two qeustions

My method is very similar to Sam's method. I have master files that have standard details as well as files that have "master symbols" accessed through the favorites folder in the Resources Browser. Now that VW is a BIM based program…

try making up the detail and saving to you detail file then when you start a new drawing you can link into it, I do this in any office I go to and we all have access to the same details.
