Hi VW Community-

I use VW2011 on MAC OSX 10.6.7

So, I have 1 sheet with 3 viewports on it but there is a conflict between two of the three viewports.  First of all, when I switch from any saved view back to the sheet with the viewports on them, the two viewports (in conflict) don't show up automatically. I need to go into my Viewports Navigation window to "activate" them so they are visible. The 3rd viewport is fine and is always visible/active on the sheet. Now, here's the issue. When I double click on Viewport 1 to view it on the sheet, it appears fine. When I double click on Viewport 2, Viewport 2 becomes visible but Viewport 1 disappears. So basically I can toggle the viewports on and off but I cannot show both at the same time (which is weird because yesterday they were both visible). So, 1) What did I do to create this conflict and 2) How do I fix it?

Thank you!

D

Check to see what class they are on.  if you have a script to see the sheet check to see if the layer and class the viewports are on turned on.
I have just encountered this same problem with one of my section viewports.  I have been doing them the same for a few years but this file works exactly as you describe.  I have to use the Viewport Navigation window to have it show up and then it is fine until I leave the sheet to do something else and then reopen it.  Everything saves and prints properly as long as it is showing at the time.

Remember every object in Vectorworks is alway associated with a Layer and a Class. If you have viewports disappearing on you when using saved views and then returning to the sheet layer, once your on your sheet layer to on all of your classes. Once you see the viewport select it and see what class it is associated with in the Object Info Palette. Most likely whatever class you had active when creating the viewport that's the class that it is assigned to. So if you go to a saved view and that class is set to invisible for the saved view and you return back to the sheet layer you will not see the viewport. Once you see the viewport simply select it and change the class that you would like it to be associated with through the Object Info Palette. I recommend associating viewports with the 'None' class as this is a class that you what to keep on at all times and rarely set to invisible. Also make sure that your class options are set to 'Show/Snap/Modify Others'. I hope this helps.

viewports should be placed on the None class by default. the user could change it later, but not putting the viewport on the None class by default causes a lot of confusion, and a lot of wasted time.
I too have had viewports disappear when changing from saved views back to a viewport page.. These are NOT hidden classes or layers in these cases.
It is often just one of a group of viewports. They will return if I create another newer viewport to the same layer. They then return to viewability...
This does seem to be a bug.

I went back and checked and all the section viewports were created the same,in the none class, on the same sheet and only one of them keeps disappearing.  If I go to the viewport menu and click it opens on the proper sheet with the viewport visible but If I go straight to the sheet from the saved views the viewport isn't visible.

It has only happened since the latest upgrade to VW 2011 Arch. W/ RW.

I am still running Vectr 2010 and the same happens to me.

It is usually just one viewport that will disappear. It will re-appear if I create another new viewport. It is a problem and can lead to document confusion and or missing elements on a sheet....

So it seems the issue has disappeared. I have closed the file, and reopened it and it all works fine - Could this have possibly been a RAM issue? Did my computer just not have enough RAM To update/show both viewports at once?

Thanks for all of your responses!

Hi Damara,

Most likely the viewport was assigned to a class that was set to invisible when you navigated back to the sheet layer. It is best practice to associate viewports with the 'None' class as this is a class that you would rarely set to invisible. I hope this helps.
