Hello all.

I have just been approached to do all the drawings for a small building company that uses ArchiCAD. My question is has anyone had experience transferring files between Vectorworks and ArchiCAD?  If so, are there any major problems with information lost between the two and can it be sorted easy?

Regards

Derek

Depends on what level is required, 2D is no problem when going via dwg.
3D is more complicated (not possible)......

Your choices:

1: Through IFC and import in ArchiCAD (only 3D) and (only walls are recognized as native walls in ArchiCAD, it is possible to 'convert' doors and windows to basic ArchiCAD doors and windows however sizes and other settings are lost and must be set again (so it's not much use))
2: Through 3DS/3D dwg etc however the result is a 'dead' 3D model to be used in ArchiCAD...not very useful either if editing is necessary.
Thanks Vincent, I thought that may have been the case and will just work around it to suit both parties. Regards Derek
It's odd that we can't directly communicate between Vectorworks and ArchiCAD since we both are within the same family of Nemetschek. Where is the dialog between all of Nemetschek's 10 CAD platforms to strengthen their position in the fight against Autodesk's AutoCAD and Revit?
Hi Brian, I wasn't aware that ArchiCAD was part of the Nemetschek's family, and yes I would have to agree with you, it is a shame.
