Colored Axes

Hello Vectorworkers

I am unsuccessfully trying to get rid off the "colored axes". I have check and uncheck the preference box but I still see them (they only disappear when I use some tools like zoom).

Any ideas? 

Designer 2011 on MAC OSX 10.6.7.
