Hi all,

My question is; If I had a house elevation and needed two versions, say, one clad in brickwork the other in a render finish how would you change the material by setting up something in the obj info under data. In other words without using a symbol (within a symbol) or using classes.

It would be good if there was just a button to select for each symbol.

Many thanks,

Paul.

Hi Craig

I would use viewports for this. Ensure that all your textures are set using classes rather than applied directly to the objects.
Create your view on the design layer and then create a Viewport. Duplicate the viewport on the sheet layer. Each viewport can have its own independent layer and class visibility settings - just click the classes button in the OIP with a viewport selected. From this dialogue, you can edit the class, change the texture, and it will only change it for the viewport.

Why don't you want to use classes?

All the best

Hi thanks for the reply.

I dont want to use classes as if I had a street elevation with about 30 houses on it, and used the same house type symbol in many of them and changed the class it would change all of them. example;.using the same symbol, maybe I'd want to have 4 bricks houses, then 2 render, then some a different colour render, then brick..........
I get around this problem by using symbols within symbols. I also use classes incase the client wants to change the material.

Thanks for your suggestion, I didn't think of that. But I wonder if I could accurately but-up terraces of houses together?

(hope that all made sense)

Paul.
Paul, Tamsin's suggestion will be easiest. And it is entirely possible to build up a whole terraced view of a street of houses (even though they're all looking at the same model on design layers). Your Crop objects may have to be somewhat creative, though.

On individual projects I use separate layers for the walls, ie, an Exterior wall-Stone and Exterior Wall-Brick. Build the model in one, copy/paste in place to the other. This lets me spin the whole model for each version.

Perhaps this is too cumbersome for such a big street scape. Don
