The Community for Architects, Landscape & Lighting Designers

We just started Vectorworking and we are looking at ways to make this the best place in Internet where Vectorworks users and fans can meet and discuss about features, technologies, and every topic related to their design activities.

Let us know by leaving a comment to this forum discussion, we would love to hear from you!

Thank you!

How about more member information, in a data base form that can be searched in terms of services offered and looking for, individual web adresses, specialties, etc. so that members can use each other as knowledge and service resources. For example; I will be designing and building a straw bale house in the next year and would be interested in getting some support from someone who has experience with strawbale and uses VW. In the other direction, I have been designing and building timber frames for 25 years and modelling them in 3D since mini-cad 7, and am happy to help others design and engineer frames.....
Michael,
I agree with your feedback from the theoretical point of view. Practically speaking, I can't force new members to enter a full profile. They will certainly revolt against me and against VectorWorking. I have hard time to push people to enter their basic info such as their full name and picture, I can't imagine what will happen if I ask them to provide more detailed information.

We already have an optional field called "Online Profile (e.g. Linkedin, Facebook, etc.):" for what you call "individual web addresses".

Would you recommend to add a couple of optional fields such as "specialties" and "services offered/looking for"? We can do that.

Franco
HI Franco - I was thinking of only people that wanted to network more actively - perhaps describing it as a voluntary virtual network for the purpose of supporting and/or hiring each other and then organizing the list somehow by topic or service? I imagine that there's no real reason to belong to the network if one doesn't want to communicate to other members. thanks
Michael-

VectorWorking is centered around the idea of VW professionals interacting, sharing, and learning as a community. I like your idea and I believe what Franco is saying is that we could not make background info mandatory when signing up for VectorWorking but I think some sort of middle-ground can be reached. What if we created a "Networking Forum" where a linkedin profile can be shared, a job offer can be posted, or upcoming projects can be discussed?
sounds great Frank!
Mike!

Excellent. We'll get started on that soon and keep you updated on the status. Again, thank you for your interaction and feedback to help make VectorWorking the best VW community.
Mike-

Good news. We've set up new fields in the personal settings that are searchable that include job title, firm url and professional services wanted/offered. You can update those settings here.

Also, we have a forum entitled "Developing Business Associates" dedicated to networking and job sharing.

Hope this helps! Thanks again for being an active member of VectorWorking, it is members like you that make us the premiere VW community!

It would be nice to have a field in the personal profile for a firm website or personal website… not just the social networking URL.
If you can add a page based instant message app so we can communicate with people on this site live (a la Facebook.) Makes for a great way to meet and network with VW users around the world who you wouldn't ordinarily be able to meet.

Steve
Good news Steven!
Now we have a chat. You should see it as a bar at the bottom of each page.
Click on it and a chat appears!

Enjoy,

Franco
You guys rock!!!
