VectorWorking

The Community for Architects, Landscape & Lighting Designers

We've gotten a pretty big influx of new members recently so I wanted to take a moment to welcome everyone and ask all of you to come in and say hello! Please feel free to introduce yourself if you're an existing member and if you're a newer member, tell us what brought you in and what you hope to get out of this site.

I'll start.

I'm Franco. I started this site with the support of Novedge so we could all share our experiences. I hope this becomes a place where we can all learn from each other. It's a shared venue where we inform you of current events, share our professional experiences using Vectorworks, and find ideas and inspiration for new projects and designs. Welcome to VectorWorking!

Hey Franco & Others

Thank you for welcoming me and just being here with this site, I'm sure it will come in very handy once I get my feet wet. I am presently waiting for a book to help me get started. I ordered Vectorworks Essentials 2nd Edition, hope I did the right thing there. Anyway thank you all and have a very "Happy New Year" and a prosperous 2010.

Hi - just found this site via Twitter (Jonathan Pickup @archoncad) - I'm still learning VW having started a year or so ago. Found it quite tricky to start with but have been doing some training with Tamsin Slatter recently - including reviewing her book just started on 3D and making good progress. Tamsin has also helped by creating some new textures, from my photos which are relevant to the area that I live and work so I can now better represent walls and houses in the Bath area.
wishing everyone a creative and prosperous 2010
Cheers
Tim
Hello Franco & fellow members,

I'm new to VW and the community. I'm delighted there is a resource such as this to assist me with to learn in using VW Landmark. For 10 years I exclusively used Autocad in my capacity as a Landscape Designer. The learning process is steep for myself and my aim will be to learn and to hopefully contribute to this group and others.
I bought VW Landmark in Nov. of 2009 and currently using Jon Pickup Landmark tutorial manual. I'm currently in the middle of project 4. I've also used VW own manual that came with the program, but to be honest, I found the written instructions and the manual format(Text size, small graphics and writing style) difficult to integrate in utilizing the program. Lastly, feel free to contact me, as I will be checking into this and other groups to learn and contribute.

Thanks,

Jim
Hi all~
Thanks for the welcome. This seems like a terrific user group--and I'm excited to be part of it. I've already gained several new insights into using Vectoworks, which was the catalyst for my joining, and I very much hope to continue to learn new tips and tricks from other users like myself to help me help our firm work more efficiently.

I'm a partner at WRJ Design Associates (www.wrjassociates.com), and have used Vectorworks for about 5 years now. Having seen it emerge through several versions, I'm a big advocate for it (over Autocad), as I feel it's a much more intuitive and user-friendly program. For my purposes, it's a terrific application to get new drawings up and running quickly.

Keep up the great work with this community site!
Thanks ~

Hi, I am Graham. Such a friendly user group. I have been a user since Minicad 7. I love it and I use it every day for hours, sometimes just for fun. I look forward to chatting with everyone.

I've been a user since Minicad 4 (on the Mac).
Well I will just start of by saying:
My picture is old.
Just like most pictures on the web
you want to show yourself as you still
think you look in you minds eye.
Check out my pictures coming soon
Hi everyone,

I have been working with Vectorworks for about 2 years on a Mac. I have worked in 2- and 3-D computer graphics and with CAD programs on various platforms in various times and places over the years.

Now we have to learn how to use the 3-D parts of Vectorworks, and will be using renderworks, so we can do some cool presentation pics. Should be lots of fun. It's great when the boss's orders co-incide with your own wishes! ;^) We ordered 3 titles from Jonathan Pickup today, and would like them yesterday, please, Jon, so we can get going!

I look forward to having this resource available to learn from. I hope to be able to contribute some some day too...

Best wishes to all,

Tess Frost

Greetings from Venezuela, I'm a free lance architect very proud to belong to Vectorworking, please excuse for my english but I'll try to make me understand,
I work with VW si minicad 3, and I have a lot of experience to share with all you!!
Hi Franco.
I'm Martin.

Thanks for this Website man, over in South Africa the support for Vectorworks is extremely limited, we are but a hand full of designers here that I know of and most of us are self trained. There is NO formal training being provided here, they merely retail the product and then you can purchase some training dvd's but hec we would love to attend some sort of weekend siminar or something similar to sharpen up the skills if yo uknow what I mean.

I have been using Vectorworks for the last 3 - 4 years and I swear by it! I have Vectorworks 12 - Designer with Renderworks and I use the spotlight package a lot of the time to do renders for client visualisations of events. In the past, the company that had the 3D Design capability got the job, but now however most of the time you are expected to provide 3D renders at the pitch stage of things or they dont even consider you for the job. This also means if you work in Vectorworks you would keep your cards closed in order to keep producing the best designs and get the work.

This has also caused a lot of people to go the MSD route as they dont have the time to learn Vectorworks and get the same results.

Vectorworks all the way for me though!

I have been using the animation along path a lot and have been able to produce some cool fly throughs for clients but I find the only way for my renders to look kinda ok is to use the Open GL rendering and then I often add some extras in Photoshop.

What could I do to get more life like renders like the ones posted on this website?

Any advise would be very welcome...

Glad to finally get to a web site where
